Design
Design starts with a discovery visit at your home, then moves into our design studio. Your designer develops the floor plan and elevations, walks you through them in 3D, and refines them with you until they are right. Design ends with a detailed estimate built from the finished drawings, which is what makes a fixed price possible.
Selections
Selections are made in the studio with your designer, not from a catalog on your own: cabinetry, counters, tile, plumbing fixtures, lighting and hardware. Each choice is priced as you make it, so you always know where the number stands. When selections are complete they are locked into the contract, and that is why the price does not change.
Build
Once cabinets arrive, on-site work moves quickly since HHI can normally turn cabinets around in about two weeks, so the schedule is driven less by cabinet lead times and more by plumbing, electrical, and structural or foundation inspections where they apply. A project manager is on site daily, overseeing the subcontract crews doing the work and inspecting it internally before it's considered done. Town inspections are scheduled by the director of construction, and results are logged in the portal the same day, so you always know where the build stands.
Workmanship warranty
One-year workmanship warranty on every project, measured against the National Association of Home Builders' Residential Construction Performance Guidelines.

Can you convert a tub to a walk-in shower?
Yes, HHI Builders converts tubs to walk-in showers as part of a full bathroom remodel. The tub comes out and the shower is rebuilt, with plumbing usually relocated to a floor drain. You choose between an acrylic pan and a mud-set tiled pan, and that choice is made during selections, before anything is demolished. HHI does full bathroom remodels rather than conversion-only jobs, so a tub-to-shower conversion is handled as one piece of the larger project, designed and built by the same team under a fixed-price contract.
Do bathroom remodels require permits?
Most bathroom remodels need a permit, and HHI pulls it for you. The Town of Hilton Head Island handles permitting for the island, except for Windmill Harbour, which goes through Beaufort County. A simple freshen-up with no structural or plumbing changes can be permitted in as little as two days. Projects involving structural work typically take about five weeks, including two to three weeks for plan review, since engineering and drawing review take time. Most other bathroom permits fall somewhere in between, generally one to five weeks. If your bathroom remodel touches exterior work in a plantation community, it will also need ARB approval before the Town will accept the permit application.
